How should I go about getting a bike shop to sponsor me? I am trying to raise money for the Friedreich’s Ataxia Research Alliance (FARA) through a bicycle ride from Sacramento to Las Vegas. I am only going to ride the first two legs of the race (100 miles) due to the fact that I have a job and family. But to participate in the race I need to raise money for the FARA. Now since this is a bicycle ride to raise money, would a bicycle shop be the best place to go to get that money? Any tips in what I should do when I go in? I hate asking for anything, especially money and I want to go in there prepared and to show that this is a legit cause. You can try bike shops. But doing a fundraiser for med. research and other good causes isn’t just a bicycle community issue even if using a ride to generate donations. Actually, bike shops in general have meager financial resources. Try talking with larger companies. Retail stores like Wal Mart etc. have budgets for community donations etc. Ask the management at you place of work and any other businesses you have contact with.
Any advise and tips will be appreciated.
